This was the first in a series with the same name, but in reality the name was the only thing they had in common, there was no shared story and each were stand-alone stories with no actor appearing in more than one movie. Spoilers: The story telling in this movie was a bit chaotic, there were elements introduced that were not explained nor seemed to help the story in anyway. The movie was described a couple of different ways, one was that the main character was a writer and his creation was brought to life. The other is that the writer's former roommate lost his life in an accident and was brought back to life for a short time. The opening sequence seemed to lean into this as the plot. However, near the end of the movie we learn that the writer has hallucinations when he doesn't take his meds and that is what this turned out to be. In a lucid moment he is talking to his childhood best friends who made him take his meds. When the writer was asking for his boyfriend/former roommate, the friend has no idea who this person was, letting the viewer know that the story was all imagined by the writer.
