Love, Simon is a safe, non-threatening, formulaic, consumable pastiche created to make straight audiences feel progressive for watching a "gay" movie.

Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it's a little more complicated. He hasn't told his family or friends that he's gay, and he doesn't know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he's fallen for online.

Some very powerful moments. Some very relatable moments. But it's also nice to see a queer drama which (despite a character's homosexuality being the core of the narrative) isn't wholly fucking depressing. Final rating:★★★ - I liked it. Would personally recommend you give it a go.

This is the story of Simon, a senior in high school, who is secretly gay. Much of his struggle is really accepting himself as he knows that his parents will accept him. While trying to find love and keep his identity a secret, he creates a fake profile to post on school forum and is surprised when another guy at school is gay and starts to write back to him. They develop a bond without ever knowing who the other person was. I won't give away spoilers, but when Simon's real identity is revealed the boy he was talking to vanishes off of the internet and Simon is forced to come to terms with being fully out and decide what to do about the mystery boy he fell in love with and how to find him.
